03/10/11 - Fraser Island Update - 1700
FRASER ISLAND: The Queensland Fire Service, the Rural Fire Brigade from Hervey Bay and resort staff members, who maintained a vigil at the resort last night, have continued to work through the day to contain a bush fire in the Great Sandy National Park. Kingfisher Bay Resort Group General Manager, David Hay, said that the situation on the island had improved in the last few hours as a result of back burning and an improvement in weather conditions.

FRASER ISLAND: We can confirm reports that a Fraser Island bush fire is currently north-east of the resort's boundary fence in the Great Sandy National Park.
The Queensland Fire Service, the Rural Fire Brigade from Hervey Bay and resort staff members have worked tirelessly through the night to contain the blaze. Back burning on the resort’s boundary last night was successful and four aerial crews are water bombing the fire - which is currently a couple of kilometres to the north east of the resort.
