FRASER ISLAND: The heart-shaped Lake McKenzie is a popular choice for would-be romantics wanting to impress the special someone in their life and, with Valentine's Day falling on a Friday this year, Fraser locals are expecting it to be a popular place for romantic mini breaks and proposals.

Last year, European couple Martin Lieberz and Tove Karlsson chose to celebrate Valentine's Day and their wedding-day morning with the whole of Australia during a live broadcast with Channel Seven's Sunrise breakfast show from Lake McKenzie.

Kingfisher Bay Resort Group General Manager, David Hay, said Lake McKenzie was the perfect choice for the couple to celebrate their special day, but was also a popular spot for nervous grooms to pop the question.

"Our most memorable couple was Hervey Bay's Peter Sewell who proposed to his German girlfriend, Annette Ludwig on one of our Fraser Explorer Premium Tours last year," he said.

In a move right off the pages of a romance movie, Peter and the team from Fraser Explorer Tours plotted for several days to plan the perfect Fraser Island proposal, with tour guide John Riley in the driver's seat.
The tour group held up three big A3 signs with the words WILL, YOU and MARRY ME as the unsuspecting bride-to-be arrived at Lake McKenzie.

This year, Craignish couple Tara Miller and Andrew Pearson has chosen the equally picturesque Kingfisher Bay lookout for their Feb 14 nuptials and will marry in the golden hour as the sun starts to set over the Great Sandy Strait.
