FRASER ISLAND: Dad's who love casting a fishing line off Fraser and spending time in the great outdoors with be in their element on September 1 with the introduction of our inaugural Fraser Father's Day Away and fishing competition package.  Congrats to Steve Daddow for landing the catch of the day - a 46cm, 2.2kg Flathead - you bewdy!

According to Group General Manager, David Hay, September is a time when the weather starts to warm; the days are slightly longer and the first of the school mackerel start appearing in Hervey Bay.

"It's the tail end of bream season, but the early mornings on Fraser Island may yield some GTs, blackall and the first of the summer whiting – which means great conditions for a spot of Father's Day fishing," Mr Hay said.

Father's Day on Fraser Island begins with a leisure ferry ride to Kingfisher Bay Resort at 0900, but from then the day is sure to heat up with our special fishing competition. The Fisherman's Corner at Pialba (in Hervey Bay) has generously put up a prize kitty across the various categories - which will pitch sibling against sibling (in the 4-14 year age group) and father against father against the mothers (in the 15 and over age group).

There's also a family beach volley ball comp on Beach Cove (near The Sand Bar) from 1030 and mums who aren't keen on the fishing, can slip away and book in an indulgent treatment at Kingfisher Natural Therapy. They'll also receive a 20% discount if they book in advance.

Fishing can be thirsty work, so Kingfisher Bay has included added a cold schooner of beer (or soft drink for the kids and wine/beer for mum) and an Aussie beach BBQ with steak, grilled barra and chicken breasts into the mix.

The cost is just $65^ per person or $35^ for children (4-14yrs) and includes your passenger ferry transfers from River Head, fishing comp entry and lunch. Guests are also welcome to use the resort's facilities to help Dad have the perfect day out on island.

For those that want to spoil their father with a sleepover, the resort is offering a standard hotel room from $125 twin share.  To book call 1800 072 555.

^Some booking conditions apply.
