BIRDERS FLOCK TO FRASER
BIRD WEEK 10 - 17 MAY 2008
Now in its seventh year, Fraser Island’s acclaimed Bird Week attracts more than 160 Australian and international bird watchers – keen to seek out some of the 354 recorded species on the island. Bird Week activities include Ranger-guided excursions to mangrove and rainforest in search of the elusive Ground Parrot and Owl, informative talks by renowned birding experts, bird art and photography classes.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER...
Discovering the birds of Fraser Island is a breeze, from the comfort of award-winning Kingfisher Bay Resort. Rangers conduct daily bird-watching walks where brilliant Azure, Forest and Sacred Kingfishers, Rainbow Bee-eaters, Honeyeaters, Wrens and Finches are spotted in the resort's grounds.
In addition to the bird walks, talks, hikes and daytrips in search of the Black-breasted Button-quail (endangered) and Noisy Pitta, the 2008 Fraser Island Bird Week includes hands-on art classes with Janet Flinn and Janet Matthews, photography sessions with Darran Leal and workshops on biodiversity, conservation and bird identification with a variety of presenters, including author Tim Low and sound-recordist David Stewart.
Kingfisher Bay Resort will also welcome acclaimed Australian birder, photographer and award-winning author, Raoul Slater, as a Guest Presenter during the week-long celebrations.
