Kingfisher Bay Ranger Guide, Peter Meyer, who hosted the group on Fraser, said the show was being billed by producers as a cross between Survivor and the Amazing Race - and featured 10 French families competing in various challenges around Queensland.
"It was wild," he said. "Basically these families were dropped on Fraser Island by the team at Air Fraser with no actual idea where they were."
Over the course of the day the families had to drive down 75-Mile Beach; talk to fisherman who gave them directions to find Peter - who was taking pictures at Lake Wabby.
Peter then gave them directions on how to find Lake Birrabeen and Central Station.
"Their final challenge on Fraser was to find a medallion that was buried in the shallows of the water." he said. "What a task!"
The elimination-style game show will run on prime time on the TF1 network in France. Tourism Queensland's Regional Director for Europe, Kai Ostermann, said the show was expected to air in Fraser next April and estimated its exposure was worth around $20
million.
"That's fantastic exposure for Fraser Island and fantastic exposure for Queensland," said Kingfisher Bay Resort's Media Manager, Jodi Clark.
"But we're also kicking goals closer to home - with visits by Channel Seven's Queensland Weekender and Creek to Coast crews earlier this year," she said. "And just recently we've had a great run with several locally produced shows from the Ten Network visiting."
Channel Ten's Totally Wild recently spent a week with on Fraser filming a variety of wildlife stories around Kingfisher Bay and out on the island. They also went out with Keith and Sue Reid on a Pearl Farm Tour. The shows are expected to screen in Australia
and in 44 countries around the globe later this year and early next year.
Channel Ten's brand new Travel Show, Making Tracks, visited the island in late September - their Fraser story screened on television last Saturday afternoon at 4.30pm.
"To top off the coverage Channel Ten's Sunday travel show, Places We Go, will screen their Fraser Island visit this Sunday afternoon at 4.30pm - so tune in for that one," she said.
"Places We Go spent a bit of time on island with Peter Meyer. It should be a good positive travel story and again great exposure for our region."
