According to Kingfisher Bay Resort's Group General Manager – the hard work and dedication of his staff, through a couple of extremely tough years in tourism, has paid dividends as the group took out two awards at tonight's Fraser Coast Tourism Awards.

Fraser Explorer Tours confirmed its position as one of the coast's leading tour experiences and was inducted into the Hall of Fame tonight.  The popular touring company was also highly commended as a first-time entrant in the 'Environmental Tourism' category.

Fraser Island Barges won last year's best Transport Operator category and took out top honours again this year.

And to seal the evening, Kingfisher Bay Resort's signature restaurant, Seabelle, was also named best 'Restaurant' for its use of local produce and bush tucker ingredients in place of traditional European herbs. This is the second consecutive year that Seabelle has taken out the top award.

Mr Hay said that Fraser Island was a real draw card for the Fraser Coast and it was a real privilege for his team to be able to show it off to visitors from around Australia and the world – through the Group's touring, marine and resort products.

"This year has been tough with extreme weather events, a rising Australian dollar and lower visitors in region – and it is fair to say that we're absolutely blown away by the wins tonight," he said.

"It's also humbling to still be recognised by the local tourism industry for the work that we do after 19 years in operation," he said. "We couldn't have done this without our hard working team – these awards pay tribute to their dedication."
