Fraser Island Sets The Scene For A Heart-Warming Proposal

FRASER ISLAND: Now here's a story to warm even the coldest winter heart! It took a visit to Fraser Island's heart-shaped Lake McKenzie; five-hundred colourful LED candles and a detailed mud map of how to position them into the perfect "Marry Me" love heart for Sunnybank entrepreneur, Fisher Yu, to surprise his way into his girlfriend's heart.

Groom Fisher and bride-to-be, Lavender Shu, chose World Heritage-listed Fraser Island on recommendation from friends and because of an uncanny similarity between Kingfisher Bay Resort's name and Fisher's chosen English name.

But what Lavender, a Digital Content Specialist for Tourism and Events Queensland, thought was a winter birthday getaway with her partner, was actually part of Fisher's elaborate plan to propose to his lady love.

With the perfect destination chosen and booked... next came the proposal planning phase where Fisher managed to smuggle 500 LED lights and other proposal paraphernalia into the resort hidden between shirts and his smalls – with Lavender none the wiser.

The sun shone bright on proposal morning and the happy couple headed off to explore the world's largest sand island – but not before Fisher gave Lavender the slip to secretly meet with Kingfisher Bay Resort Events team and give them the all-important final instructions.

Back at the resort, Fisher inspected his proposal site – the gorgeous bush chapel set in Seabelle's native bush garden – gave it thumbs up and handed the events team an iPad to record the moment whilst he waited for the clock to strike 7, so he could escort Lavender to "dinner".

There wasn't a dry-eye from the Kingfisher team as a very surprised Lavender gave Fisher a resounding "Yes" after being presented with a gorgeous heart-shaped ring and the happy couple sat down to enjoy a romantic bush-tucker dinner, backlit by 500 candles in the shape of a love heart.

There's no word as yet as to where or when the happy couple will tie the knot on Fraser Island, but the Kingfisher Bay team are more than keen to help Fisher plan and top his engagement surprise with an elopement bombshell or impromptu wedding ceremony.
