To help cast off any winter blues, the folks at Kingfisher Bay Resort have released a range of activities and retreats to tempt the taste buds and rejuvenate the soul this August and September.
All Winter – Seafood Dinner Cruises Ex Urangan Boat Harbour
Saturday Nights; the Great Sandy Strait; a fresh local seafood buffet; and a 50-minute leisurely cruise with the lovely Brian and Jill Perry has all the makings of a great night out!
Kingfisher Bay’s popular dinner cruises have been a regular feature on Hervey Bay’s dining calendar and now offers Saturday night departures ex Urangan Boat Harbour. The night starts with a cruise across the Great Sandy Strait (and glimpses of our famous mango-coloured sunsets) aboard Quick Cat followed by a seafood dinner buffet – the perfect treat for family or visiting friends.
Saturday night dining out in Maheno is a regional affair, with locally-sourced and home-grown produce very much the order of the day. The cruise and the all-you-can-eat Seafood buffet with hot and cold seasonal dishes, vegetarian options and a smorgasbord of cheese and delectable desserts offers unbeatable value at just $79* for adults and $35* for children.
To book, call 1800 072 555 (toll free) and if you want time out without the kids, ask the Reservations team about enrolling the kids in the resort’s popular Junior Eco Ranger activity program.

Sept 08-09 – Marine Life Under The Microscope
Fraser Island resort guests and visitors will have the chance to learn more about our fragile marine environment, with the arrival of Marine ecologist, Richard Coward, to Kingfisher Bay for a series of free guest presentations and walks this September.
Richard’s incredible passion for the marine environment is equalled by his passion to educate. During his extensive career the father-of-three has been involved in research programs including buoyancy syndrome turtle research, shark research and breeding programs as well as whale rescues and is a regular guest on Channel Ten’s Totally Wild (who is also tipped to visit the resort in September this year).
With extensive experience managing exhibits in aquariums around the world, the Ocean Life Education lecturer has also worked with sharks, seals, penguins, turtles, sea jellies, fish, octopus and invertebrates.
You can catch Richard as part of the resort’s regular weekly What’s On line up.
Sept 14-17 – A Photographic Retreat In Pristine Wild
The team from the Bluedog Photography kennel are returning to Fraser Island for another of their highly successful three-day photographic retreats on at Kingfisher Bay. These fun retreats – for photographers of all skill levels - mixes Fraser’s natural attractions with lessons in wildlife photography, framing landscapes and seashores, using natural lighting and camera techniques.
Gold Coast-based photographer Danielle Lancaster will lead the getaway to Fraser, helping students uncover the island’s best spots from September 14 to 17.
“Photography is something anyone can do, you don't need the greatest, most expensive camera and all the gear - you just need to want to,” Danielle said.

• Three nights’ resort hotel accommodation at Kingfisher Bay Resort with meals;
• 2x full-day photographic workshops on Fraser Island with Blue Dog instructors and Kingfisher Bay Interpretive Ranger Peter Meyer;
• Return ferry transfers from River Heads and a half-day Whale Watch cruise from the resort.
