The resort, on Fraser Island’s western side, has a jam-packed Australia Day line up including an Aussie-themed morning tea with mini pavlovas, lamingtons and Anzac biscuits; beach cricket and beach volleyball; face painting for the kids; Triple J’s hottest 100 countdown; and a perennial favourite - Aussie sausage sizzle and BBQ*.
Resort General Manager, Warwick Kahl, said his team was looking forward to the fun and games on Fraser Island over the Australia Day weekend, especially with holidaying families and international guests.
“We’re chuffed Australia Day falls over a weekend this year as, after a very busy summer holiday season, it gives locals the change to take a home-grown holiday in their own backyard,” he said. “It’ll also be a real eye-opener for some of our international guests with our thong throwing and beach cricket competitions.”
Mr Kahl encouraged people looking for a mini break to check the Kingfisher Bay and Eurong Beach Resort websites for the best available accommodation rates on Fraser, but added that day guests were also very welcome at both resorts.
“Fraser is the perfect place to have a digital detox and Fraser’s numerous freshwater lakes and creeks, the long stretches of beach and the inland sites, along with the sunny weather, would certainly be very appealing,” he said. “We’ll just add to their experience by injecting a little ‘Aussieness’ into the holiday at Kingfisher Bay Resort and our activities aren’t just restricted to house guests.”
Kingfisher Bay’s regular Day Away package bundles courtesy pick up from accommodation houses or Urangan marina, ferry transfers, morning tea, set menu lunch at the Sand Bar (or choice of Australiana BBQ), Ranger-guided canoe paddle, a spot of fishing – and on Australia Day it’ll also include the Aussie activities. Day Away is priced at $65 for adults and $35 for children aged 4-14. Family passes are available.
In addition, Fraser Island day tours will run as normal from the resort and the 21st Kingfisher Bay Regatta will provide some hotly contested yachting action on the Great Sandy Strait right through until January 28.
