KINGFISHER BAY RESORT: Aussie Actor Michael Caton is revered for playing lovable larrikins on television but when the actor visits Fraser Island in April he’ll have a more serious agenda in mind.

Michael - who was born in Monto, Queensland - is perhaps best known for his roles as Uncle Harry in the long running Australian TV series, The Sullivans; Darryl Kerrigan in the 1990s low budget movie hit The Castle; and, most recently, he’s been gracing our screens in Channel Seven’s popular Packed to the Rafters show. On April 26, he’ll swap the small screen for the stage as guest of honour at the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce to help raise vital funds for one of Australia’s endearing charities, Variety – the Children’s Charity.

Michael was appointed as an Ambassador for the charity in 2010 and is passionate about its mission to empower Australian children.

“Variety - The Children’s Charity’s philosophy and indeed reputation, is to bring people together with entertaining and fun events for the greater cause of helping Queensland’s sick, disadvantaged or special needs kids,” he said.

The charity began working with extra special children more than 75 years ago in the United States, reaching Australian shores some 30 years ago. They receive no direct government funding, so monies raised at the lunch will help fund everything from life changing equipment for hospitals to Sunshine Coaches for school children in remote or disadvantaged communities, mobility aides, wheelchairs and assistive technologies.

Chamber of Commerce Long Lunch tickets cost $100 Members, $120 Non Members or $1000 for a table of 10 and include private charter transfers aboard The Spirit of Hervey Bay from Urangan to Kingfisher at 12noon (the return launch leaves the resort at 1715). There will also be an auction on the day with all proceeds going to the Variety – the Children’s Charity of Queensland.

Seats are limited and can be booked on the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce website.  For those that want to make a night of it on the world’s largest sand island, Kingfisher Bay Resort has also developed a keenly priced bed and breakfast deal for just $139* per room. Accommodation can be booked by calling 1800 FRASER (toll free in Australia) or emailing and quoting 'Chamber of Commerce Long Lunch'.

*Some conditions apply. Accommodation is twin share and this rate is only available to ticket holders.
