Dad's who love dropping a line in and spending time in the great outdoors are going to be the box seat with the Father's Day celebrations we have in store at Kingfisher Bay Resort.  Congrats to Steve Daddow for landing the catch of the day - a 46cm, 2.2kg Flathead - you bewdy!

Father's Day is on Sunday the first of September - it's a time when the weather is starting to warm up, the days are slightly longer and the first of the school mackerel should be swimming merrily across bay. It's the tail end of bream season, but the early mornings may yield some GTs, blackall and the first of the summer whiting.

Father's Day on Fraser Island begins with a leisure ferry ride to Kingfisher Bay Resort... and then the pressure is on for Dads, Mums and families to cast their rods and land the catch-of-the-day in our inaugural Father's Day fishing comp. Register at the Jetty Hut from 0930.

The Fisherman's Corner at Pialba (in Hervey Bay) has generously put up a prize kitty across the various categories - which will pitch sibling against sibling (in the 4-14 year age group) and father against father against the mothers (in the 15 and over age group) in the following categories:

  • Live weigh-in for edible species (bream and whiting)
  • Dead weigh-in (whiting, blackall, bream, golden trevally)
  • Any other species.

Brian, from our Res team, is sliding in to the compere role and will officiate on the day. And mums who aren't keen on the fishing, can slip away and book in an indulgent treatment at Kingfisher Natural Therapy and will receive a 20% discount if they book in advance.

There's also a family beach volley ball comp on Beach Cove (near The Sand Bar) from 1030.

On Fraser Island we understand that fishing can be thirsty work, so we've added a cold schooner of beer (or soft drink for the kids and wine/beer for mum) and an Aussie beach bbq with steak, grilled barra and chicken breasts into the mix. It's all kicking off from noon near the resort's Dingo Den.  Guests are also welcome to use the resort's facilities to help Dad have the perfect day out on island.

The cost is just $65^ per person or $35^ for children (4-14yrs) and includes your passenger ferry transfers, comp entry and lunch or make a night of it in a standard hotel room from $125 twin share. In-house guests can join us for $55^ for adults and $30^ for children.

Email, Call 1800 072 555 (free call within Australia) or +61 7 4120 3333 to book and make your Dad's day.

^Some booking conditions apply.  Cancellations 24-28 hours pior to travel incurs a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations with 24 hours or no shows will be charged in full.
